Hair Care 101
We all love the beautiful, intricate styles we create with our Crown, from braids to twists, sew-ins to faux locs to real locs- the list is endless!
Yet, they all have one thing in common: the foundation of your Crown must be healthy, clean, and hydrated!
INTERNAL HEALTH
Firstly, haircare starts within, meaning what's going inside your body. Your diet should consist of vitamin rich foods and water- I mean we are 75% water so we have to keep hydrated. And how is your overall health? Diseases that affect your blood would directly affect your hair, especially if you are taking certain medications.
So check with your health care provider to ensure none of those reasons are impacting your hair!
CLEANSING
Next we start at the scalp- your scalp has to be an environment that promotes growth aka it must be CLEAN. So we start with a shampoo! Cleansing your hair until it is free of any build up that clogs the scalp or the cuticle is essential; water cannot get into your strands if your strands are dirty (no, dirty hair does NOT promote hair growth). To ensure your hair is clean, especially if you have gone too long without washing and have product build up. is to use a clarifying shampoo, then replenish the moisture with a moisturizing shampoo (I explain the difference between the two in my HairCare Guide eBook).
HYDRATING
After you are properly cleansed, we want to put more hydration into you strands with a conditioner that contains humectants! These ingredients will help your hair retain moisture until the next wash day.
What questions do you have about how your wash routine should look or how to address the basics of haircare??
